NEVER EVER ... CLICK ANY LINKS and / or DOWNLOAD ANY SOFTWARE and / or ATTACHMENTS INSIDE AN EMAIL THAT LOOKS LIKE IT COMES FROM E-GOLD OR ANY OTHER PROCESSOR THAT YOU USE ON THE NET.
Now that I have your attention...
The same also applies to your Bank Accounts that you may have online.
There are MANY Phishing sites out there looking to steal your money. If you click a link in the email then you run the risk of being emptied of all your worldly possessions.
I would suggest that ALL MEMBERS use Firefox for safer browsing and use the Netcraft toolbar http://toolbar.netcraft.com to detect Phishing sites If you accidently click on a link.
Do a search on http://www.google.com for the words "egold Phishing email" and you will gain further information.
A typical email will come to your inbox like so:
From : e-gold <account@-e-gold.com>
( Looks authentic... Well, not quite. Check out the tiny dash (-) just after (@)
This email is to inform you, that we had to deactivate your e-gold account access because we have been notified that your account may have been compromised by outside parties.
Our terms and conditions you agreed to state that your account must always be under your control or those you designate at all times. We have noticed some unusual activity related to your account that indicates that other parties may have access and or control of your information in your account.
These parties have in the past been involved with money laundering, illegal drugs, terrorism and various Federal Title 18 violations.
Account access will remain disabled until this issue will be solved. If you are the rightful holder of the account, please click on the link bellow and log in to your e-gold account.
https://www.e-gold.com/acct/login.html
( If you hover your mouse over the login link, you will notice that the actual address of the site is )
http://ww-e-gold.com/acct/login.html
( You probably won't notice the difference at a glance. Look carefully. The address is ww-e-gold. )
Another Type of email:
Dear e-gold user,
Due to the number of incorrect login attempts, your e-gold account
has been temporarily limited for your security. This has been done
to secure your account and to protect your private information in
case the login attemps were not done by you.
Account access will remain limited until this issue will be solved.
Please click on the link bellow and log in to your account:
Restore e-gold account access
( This will be a link, DO NOT CLICK IT )
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate
assistance in helping us maintain the integrity of the entire
e-gold system. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Please do not reply to this automatically generated email message.
...and another:
Dear E-Gold Customer
There are some problems in the E-gold system where we have to stop some accounts,
you have to log into your account,to check if it found frozen.
https://www.e-gold.com/acct/login.html
( Again roll your mouse over the link, DO NOT CLICK IT and see what the real URL is )
If it is frozen you will have to add your Email and wait for our reply later
best regards ,
There are MANY more if you just look online.
Scammers will not stop. Not for as long as there are gullible / green / newbie's etc ( no disrespect ) people in this world. What we can do is defend ourselves by taking precautionary steps like:
1. NEVER Click any link from your e-mail unless you know it is real. E-Gold and most other online payment gateways will NEVER ask you to login from your e-Mail. If they ask you to login from your e-Mail link, rest assured, it's a Phishing mail.
2. For E-Gold, use a unique e-Mail address for your e-Gold account. NEVER use that e-Mail address anywhere else. NEVER reveal that e-Mail address to anybody else. If they can't find your e-Mail address, you won't receive their Phishing mail. It's that simple.
3. If you get an email, just delete it. If you are worried, go to your egold account ONLY via your own bookmarks and NEVER via an email link.
4. Confirm that you are on the e-gold website before entering your e-gold passphrase into either a logon form or a payment authorization form.
5. Verify the address/location/URL starts with: https://www.e-gold.com
6. Verify the site is secure (look at the SSL Lock icon at the bottom of your browser window)
7. Verify that the site certificate is issued by VeriSign to www.e-gold.com
8. Never click hypertext links in HTML formatted e-mail to access your account.
9. Never open/view/run/install an attachment in e-mail purporting to be from e-gold.
Above are just some recommendations...some from the main egold website http://www.e-gold.com/security.html and some of other peoples and my own.
The moral of the story...?
E-gold will NEVER contact you asking for you to login to your account.
Take care and all the best,
Tony P
